Environment America and Environment Georgia congratulate Senators-elect Ossoff and Warnock upon certification of their victories
ATLANTA -- Georgia state election officials confirmed the January 5 runoff election results Tuesday, officially certifying Senators-elect Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to be sworn into office on Wednesday.
Environment America and its state affiliate Environment Georgia would like to congratulate both the incoming senators for their victories. We also want to express our thanks to Georgia election officials for their professionalism at a time when our democracy is so fragile. Environment Georgia and its partner Fair Share Action are proud to have turned out its members and other Georgia voters in the weeks leading up to Election Day, making nearly 600,000 phone calls and talking directly with 75,000 voters across the state.
In response, Environment America’s Acting President Wendy Wendlandt and Environment Georgia’s State Director Jennette Gyer released the following statements:
“Environment America was thrilled to be able to play a part in helping to elect Senators Warnock and Ossoff. Both have demonstrated genuine commitments to solving climate change by working for a clean and sustainable energy future. We look forward to working with them in Washington,” said Wendlandt.
“From more intense hurricanes and record high temperatures to rising sea levels, Georgia is experiencing climate change today,” said Gayer. “Georgia’s new senators have made it clear they will tackle the challenges of climate change head on. Environment Georgia is excited to build a clean energy future with these bold new leaders.”
